What is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

As mentioned, Counter-Strike has had one of the longest lives of any esport so far, with the first game existing as a custom map for the original Half-Life back in the late 1990s. Since then there have been two major iterations, Counter-Strike: Source in the early 2000s, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which bought the game into the modern era when it launched in 2012.

The premise of the game is very simple. Two teams of five go head to head as either terrorists, who need to plant and secure the bomb, or counter-terrorists, whose object is to defend the bomb sites and stop the bomb detonating.

One map of CS:GO is played out for 30 rounds with a team swap in between, so one team will be able to play both terrorists and counter-terrorists on a single map. Generally, one match will exist of one, three or five maps depending on the tournament, giving teams more than enough chance to prove their worth.

The game is extremely easy to understand for viewers, it's fast-paced, and keeps you on the edge of your seat round by round as you cheer on your favourite side. It's a great place to start if you've never watched any eSports.

Your CS:GO Betting Guide

If you've never experienced any eSports betting before, the best way to start is to find out what kind of bets you can make during a match. Here are some of the most common bets:

  • Money line bet: This is the most straightforward of all bet on sports, and is a simple bet as to who will win a match.

  • Outrights/Futures: This is the long-shot bet, and has you betting on the winner of an overall competition before the event has even begun.

  • Handicap Wagers: Handicaps have the bookmaker make hypothetical adjustments to the bets. You then predict who will win after this adjustment has been made.

  • Total Wagers: A totals wager can vary slightly in eSports, but generally means the total number of maps played in a match.

  • Correct Score: This is what it says on the tin, and has you trying to guess the exact score of a match

  • Specials/Prop Bets: Props bets do not concern the match outcome itself, but rather the dealings within a match itself.

If you've ever done some conventional sports betting these bets should feel very familiar to you, as they are largely based off the same systems, and have just been adapted for the different medium. Knowing what types of bets there are is not the only hurdle however. You also ought to know your odds if you want to turn a profit in CS:GO betting, as odds can differ wildly in the same game depending on what bet was made. The money-line wager for example is a very simply bet, but its odds often mean that even if you win, your payout will be minimum. It's therefore better to sometimes make some risky bets and hope for a big win!

CS:GO Prop Bets

Prop bets are always interesting, and have to do with what happens in the match, rather than the direct outcome itself. For CS:GO, prop bets tend to go from map-to-map, so you can pick and choose when and if you want to make your bet.

CS:GO prop bets generally have to do with a few specific things, such as the pistol round, which is the opening round for each side where both teams are wielding just basic side arms as they are not able to buy guns. You can also bet on whether there will be an odd or even number of rounds, who gets the most kills in a match and other factors surrounding the match.

How to Choose Your CS:GO Betting Site

With the world of eSports betting constantly expanding, there are more and more websites that offer eSports betting services. A bet on CS:GO may seem like an easy thing to do, but remember, vigilance is always necessary. We've done the homework and already found the best places to do some CS:GO match betting, looking out for an array for important factors.

Firstly, a clear sign of trustworthiness is the speed of payout. If a casino pays out your winnings swiftly and has a variety of payment options, this is usually a good sign that the casino is legitimate. An up-to-date fixture list is also a tell-tale sign that a casino is being well maintained. Finally, a site that offers regular free bets and promotions is important, and can go a long way to boost your bankroll. Using risk-free bet promotions to make your risky bets can often put you well in the profit if your bet comes through!

What Leagues are there in CS:GO?

Unlike some other eSports, Valve, the developer of CS:GO, has not had too much of a hand in terms of the major leagues, but this does not mean CS:GO is short on tournaments.

A large majority of the big events are run by ESL, one of the premier eSports event organisers in the world. CS:GO ESL betting is always prevalent on most eSports betting websites, and offer some of the best CS:GO odds around. Other premium events such as Epicenter, ECS, Intel Extreme Masters, ELeague, PGL and others all host huge tournaments themselves.

Prizes across these tournaments range from $125,000 dollars all the way up to $1 million dollars, so there's always big money on the line for the teams when they play. This almost always ensures an extremely high skill level, which makes for nail-bitingly intense games.

CS:GO Legends

OLOF "OLOFMEISTER" KAJBJER: Olofmeister was part of the legendary Fnatic side, and was named the best player in the world in 2015. Part of many a CS:GO meme on the internet, Olofmeister is considered one of the giants of the game, and is feared no matter what side he's in. Ufortunately, due to a hand injury, he has not been active, but currently plays for Faze Clan when he can.

JAROSLAW "PASHABICEPS" JARZABKOWSKI: One of the most beloved characters in the CS:GO community, pashaBiceps is as charming as he is fierce on the battlefield. As a regular streamer, you will often find him entertaining his audience on Twitch.TV, and is currently one of the players for powerhouse side Virtus Pro.

KENNY "KENNYS" SCHRUB: KennyS has been a legend in Counter-Strike since its earliest days, and is considered to be one of the best "AWPers" in the game. Having had a successful return to CS:GO with Titan in 2014, he now resides with G2 ESports, and is still feared as one of the best shots around.

CS:GO skin betting was a huge trend for a few years, but has slowed down considerably as it went against Valve's user agreement on its platform, Steam. In essence, instead of betting money on a team, you could win some cosmetic in-game items instead, which you were able to sell on the Steam market place for real money.
