How UFC Works

The UFC is a little like the boxing world, although it’s much more violent, and fighters are allowed to kick, punch and use submission manoeuvres. Two fighters square off inside a fenced ring, and the goal of the fight is to either force the referee to stop the fight, make the opponent submit, or win on a points decision. Both men and women take part in UFC, and UFC pay-per-views attract viewers in the millions.

But how does a fight work? Well, two fighters square off against each other in the ring, and they have three rounds of five minutes (five rounds in championship fights). During this time, the fighters can do almost anything in order to win, although there are some restrictions, such as no hits to the groin, and no eye-gouging. The fight ends when it’s stopped by the referee, when one fighter submits, or when the time limit is reached.

Where to Bet on UFC

All good sportsbooks offer markets on the UFC, however we would recommend only ever betting at one of the sportsbooks we have recommended further up this page. This is for many reasons, however the biggest of them is the fact that we’ve tested our recommended sportsbooks and have verified that they’re properly regulated and operate in an honest and trustworthy manner.

The sites we’ve recommended also consistently have the best selection of markets on UFC, and this includes live markets. What’s more, they offer loads of fantastic bonuses, ranging from welcome bonuses, all the way through to massive free bet promotions. So, as you can see, it really does pay to gamble at a site we’ve recommended!

The Types of UFC Bets You Can Make

When it comes to UFC betting, there are loads of different bets you can make, however three are more popular than the rest: betting on which of the fighters will win, betting on how the fight will be won, and betting on which round the bout will conclude in. Many prop bets can also be found, and these really do increase the fun and excitement associated with UFC betting sites.

Many people also enjoy betting live on UFC, and this is something offered by the best sportsbooks for pretty much all major UFC bouts. As the fight progresses, the odds will begin to change, adjusting to the current state of the fight, and those with UFC knowledge can capitalise on these changing odds to hopefully earn some decent cash.

Other MMA Betting

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is by far the largest MMA company in the world, to the point where UFC has almost become a byword for the sport. There are other MMA companies out there though, and the biggest of these is Bellator, and you’ll find odds for Bellator matches at some of the better UFC betting sites.

There are also loads of other MMA companies throughout the world, however, none of them come close to getting the attention received by UFC, or even Bellator. Because of this, you’re unlikely to find any online betting sites offering odds on their fights. Although that doesn’t stop you from watching them!

Betting Odds Explained

New gamblers are often confused by odds, however there’s really nothing to worry about when it comes to working things out. You’ll probably find that using decimal odds is easiest, and you can work out your potential prize simply by multiplying your bet amount by the odds, and then taking off your initial bet.

So, let’s say you’ve bet $20 on Georges St Pierre to win his next bout, and you’ve been given odds of 2.40 for this to happen. To work out how much you could get back, just multiply $20 by 2.40, and the answer you’ll get is $48. You then subtract your initial bet, leaving you with a potential profit of $28.

History of the UFC

The Ultimate Fighting Championship might seem pretty new, but it was actually founded back in 1993. When it was founded, the rules were far more relaxed, and amazingly things like hair-pulling and groin strikes were allowed. The late 1990s saw some reforms though, as UFC came under criticism from American authorities and had to soften its image slightly.

UFC really start to grow in the early 2000s though, when Dana White was appointed as president of the UFC - a position he still holds today. He introduced entertaining programmes like The Ultimate Fighter, plus increased the visibility of the brand in many other ways. In 2012, he decided that it was time for women to be allowed to compete, and this immediately brought in an even larger audience. Now the UFC is a worldwide brand, and it looks like it will keep on growing.
